Why We Love the Katana Series

Known for their affordability and versatility, Katana amplifiers sound great for guitarists at all levels. The Boss Katana Gen 3 keeps almost all the beloved features of previous versions and adds even more. More is definitely better in this case.
There are now Six built-in amp characters, including a new profile called Pushed. It also retains my favorite features like the Brown amp character profile and 3 power stages
Expanded built-in effects and customization options via the BOSS Tone Studio software

New and Noteworthy Enhancements

According to the Boss website there are a list of features that make the Boss Katana Gen 3 stand out. My personal take is that these new features listed below that are the most significant.

  • Third-Generation Tube Logic: Evolved sound and expressiveness
  • Six Amp Characters: Including the newly developed Pushed type, plus variations for each
  • Cabinet Resonance Options: Vintage, Modern, and Deep (not available on the 50w models)

Final Thoughts

Though I haven’t had the chance to test one personally, I watched the product demo on Anderton’s YouTube channel. The new Tube Logic design delivers the same awesome Katana features with even better tones. Clean, Pushed, and Crunch profiles sound fuller, while higher-gain profiles like Lead and Brown are tighter compared to the previous versions.

As this is a very popular product, you can find more information and video demos on Boss’s website or guitar product review YouTube channels. I am excited about this release and hope to get my hands on the new Boss Katana Gen 3 for a quick playthrough to understand it better and compare it with my existing one.
